Save The Libraries, demonstrate on F29

I live in Brixton and I like living here, but I’ve seen the effects the cuts are already having on the place and especially on young people. Look at the summer riots and how that affected our community

I care about libraries and think the cooperative council’s plans for them are appalling. I work in Lambeth College and many of my students need libraries for books, for internet access and a quite place to study. Lots of young people and adults don’t have a place at home where they can work quietly or a computer with internet access and the library is the only place they can go

Libraries should be run by librarians who are qualified and experienced. Volunteer work is a good thing but only alongside real paid and valued employment, not as a replacement for it.

The money is there for public services. If there’s money to pay for bonuses for bankers there’s money to pay for libraries for students.

I will be demonstrating of February 29th to protect public services against the Tories and the cop out council
