Save Adventure Play & Youth Services
Public Meeting
Tuesday 12th April 6pm
Lambeth Accord, 336 Brixton Road

Lambeth Council’s budget for 2011/12 proposed savage cuts in Children and Young Peoples Services. These cuts proposals entail making savings of £700,000 from Lambeth Adventure Playgrounds by reducing opening hours to Saturday and holidays only. The council eventually plan to hand control of the service to a Co-operative Development Trust. Lambeth Unison has already seen a document that shows under these proposals adventure playgrounds will only be open for three hours a week.

Lambeth Council also plan to cut almost £1.5 million from Lambeth Youth Centres and Holiday Activities. Easter holiday activities will cease, the summer programme will be greatly reduced and youth centres are likely to close

Placing these services in the voluntary sector is no answer. The voluntary sector does good work but already struggles to provide hours and their funding can be easily withdrawn. And attempt to move the running of the playgrounds to the voluntary sector is likely to be the first step to complete closure.

Youth Services and Adventure Playgrounds are Community Assets that belong to the people of Lambeth. We demand that they stay in the public sector and are properly funded to reflect the needs of the children and young people of the borough.
